Maple House was designed by modernist architect Richard Seifert in 1975. Seifert is best known for his brutalist commercial tower blocks such as Centre Point, the NatWest Tower, and Kings Reach Tower. Maple House, however, is one of his lesser-known buildings. Originally designed for the furniture empire Maples, the building now serves as offices and residential apartments on a busy corner of Tottenham Court Road.
SCP collaborated with Gibson Thornley Architects to specify furniture that complements the striking refurbishment of the reception lobby, which has been stripped back to reveal the original concrete pillars, showcasing Seifert’s signature style. To compliment the Bordeaux red theme and the austere concrete and anodised aluminium wall linings, we introduced rich textures and polished aluminium detailing.
The Esosoft sofa, designed by Antonio Citterio for Cassina, was a perfect fit for the space. The wraparound detailing of the sofa is visible from the street. From Cassina, the Sahara rug adds softness against the concrete floor. AC5 chairs, also designed by Antonio Citterio for Vitra, sit behind a grand marble reception counter and were upholstered in Bordeaux leather. Lastly, around an Eames meeting table, elegant Tongue chairs by Arne Jacobsen for Howe were matched in the same leather.
SCP Contracts worked closely with Gibson Thornley to specify furniture for the space.
