Solstice sofa

Solstice is a relaxed design by Matthew Hilton that developed from the seed of an idea to create a fully upholstered piece that sits directly on the floor at the back. It is made from a European hardwood frame, zig-zag springs, jute webbing, hessian straps and covered with a mix of materials that includes natural fibres, animal hair and wool. It has two pure duck feather cushions and the legs come in bronze finished steel.

Subtle piping and seam details on the arms and cushion faces act as a counterpoint to the swooping curve of the design. Hilton imagines sofas and armchairs as big sculptures in our everyday living spaces, and approaches their design as such, creating shapes and forms that are somehow innate, quietly but confidently occupying space.

Also available as a armchair. Made to order in Norfolk, England.
