240 Blackfriars

London

Jasper Morrison, working with SCP, won the competition to design an installation for the reception area of 240 Blackfriars. Completed in July 2014, this distinctively crystalline looking building rises up elegantly over the south of the Blackfriars bridge. It has a dramatic nine metre high reception area that architects AHMM wanted to bring to life with a special commission.
Here we present the video and images by photographer Rob Parrish that reveal the making and placing of the new designs. Made from Carrera marble, SCP used a masonry in South Wales to create them. A blend of CNC machine cutting and hand-finishing techniques has resulted in a collection of uniquely crafted utilitarian objects. The harmony in this project comes from the sense of ease that permeates the product, the process and the space they occupy.
