Aldgate Tower

London

Aldgate Tower, situated at 2 Leman Street on the fringe of the City of London, is a 17 level office building that originally opened in 2014. With a need to renew the 5,000 sq ft double height lobby area, building owner Brookfield Properties worked with London-based design studio Basha-Franklin to transform the space.
Basha-Franklin understood the need to anchor the lobby space, which is fully glazed and very much on show to passers by, in both the cultural and aesthetic firmament of the local area. Their choices of finishes, colours and furniture all reflect this. From the brickwork cladding to the resplendent hanging canopies, their approach has been one of sensitivity and understanding of the user experience.
SCP Contracts worked closely with Basha-Franklin on the specification of the furniture and lighting. Their choices blend together contemporary standalone pieces from brands such as Established & Sons, & Tradition and Gubi, to more left field choices such as Swedish brand Blastation for the sofa system, or the colourful coffee tables from Belgian brand Nort Studio. The result is a totally reinvigorated lobby space, now suitable for a range of purposes.

Director Rachel Basha-Franklin explains the thinking behind the project. ‘The user experience strategy was key to providing a social, collaborative space with flexibility and increased appeal to a diverse range of occupiers. The ground floor now has the added value to tenants as they can use the space as an extension to their own workplace.’
