Wellcome Collection

London

The Wellcome Collection Reading Room has been re-designed by The AOC to encourage visitor participation and engagement. The room had previously been used as a ‘white cube’ gallery space and, more recently, as a traditional library and research area. In its new iteration it is a combination of both – providing a showcase for objects from Henry Wellcome’s collection as well as a space to read, work and to explore the Wellcome Collection archives.
SCP Contracts worked with The AOC to specify seating of various types throughout the space. In keeping with the relaxed, eclectic atmosphere of the room, they chose a mixture of classic pieces by brands such as Ercol, alongside newer designs by Very Good & Proper and Lostine. The large floor cushions on the staircase were manufactured for the project by our own upholstery factory, Coakley & Cox, in Norfolk.
