Chancery House

London, UK

Chancery House is a sensitive and ambitious transformation of a historic London building into a modern workplace that prioritises wellbeing, sustainability, and design clarity. Originally built in 1885 and redeveloped over the decades, its latest reinvention by Fora, dMFK, and Norm Architects unifies the building’s fragmented interiors and restores a strong architectural identity.

The design opens up previously closed-off spaces, introducing courtyards and lightwells to bring natural light deep into the building, while reconfiguring the ground floor to strengthen the relationship with the street. A calm, flexible interior layout supports a wide range of working styles, underpinned by WELL Platinum standards, including low-VOC materials and enhanced acoustic performance.

A new steel grid structure allowed the addition of a lightweight gym above the fragile Silver Vaults, while a former car park has been transformed into a landscaped, publicly accessible garden. The result is a workplace rooted in heritage but designed for the future, a space where people genuinely want to spend time.

SCP Contracts worked closely with Fora to specify furniture for the project.
